Douglas West Wind Farm Extension

Douglas West Wind Farm Extension is located within the eastern part of the Cumberhead Forest complex that lies to the north-west of Douglas and south of Coalburn in rural South Lanarkshire. 3R Energy in partnership with ScottishPower Renewables (via the project company Douglas West Extension Ltd) developed and consented this 78MW wind farm comprising 13 wind turbines with ground to blade tip height of 200 metres with an additional 20MW of energy storage capacity.

Douglas West Wind Farm Extension

The site constitutes a gap between Douglas West Wind Farm, Hagshaw Hill Wind Farm Extension, and a number of other consented wind farms on the north side of the Douglas Valley.

In November 2021, the Section 36 application was granted consent by Scottish Ministers to construct and operate Douglas West Wind Farm Extension.

Douglas West Wind Farm Extension

The project company is now owned by Capital Dynamics, a global asset management and investment firm. Construction of the development which will comprise Nordex N149 turbines began in 2024, with an expected date for operation in 2026.

Community benefit contributions of c.£390,000 per annum will be provided from this project to support groups and projects within the local area.
