Areas of Focus
3R Energy is focused on developing a new generation of renewable energy projects. We want to play our part in helping Scotland reach net zero emissions by 2045, by delivering high-quality renewable energy projects at scale.
Wind
Scotland has a fantastic natural asset in the wind, which can be put to work generating renewable electricity, replacing the fossil fuel energy sources we once relied on and helping us along the path towards net zero.
3R Energy is focused on developing a new generation of renewable energy projects which optimise the siting of renewable energy assets to generate power and minimise the impact on the environment and landscape, whilst maximising community benefit and working hard to improve biodiversity.

Energy Storage
Combining Technologies to Maximise Renewable Generation
Energy storage solutions are becoming a key part of all new renewable energy projects and will play an important role in ensuring continuity of supply to the electricity network as we phase out older fossil fuel generation. Therefore, all of our recent projects include battery storage technologies which will be charged with green electricity to support the National Grid in maintaining stability and security of supply. Battery provision allows us to store excess energy from wind and solar generation at times when demand is low and wind/sun is high, and then release the stored power at times of high demand and lower wind/sun.

Property
Creating opportunities for local economic development
3R Energy has secured planning permission for 70 acres of industrial/development land at Junction 11/12 of the M74 motorway in South Lanarkshire. The site brings to the market a private, serviced, location offering renewable heat and power at wholesale prices. The anchor tenant is a wood gasification Combined Heat and Power plant creating a steady 1MW baseload of electricity from wood and providing 6 skilled local jobs.

CHP
Innovating renewable technology and providing local jobs
3R Energy operates a wood gasification Combined Heat and Power plant, providing a steady 1MW baseload of green electricity and 2MW of heat from a byproduct of the sawmill sector.
Our CHP plant runs on woodchip and is highly efficient at generating both heat and power through a process known as gasification. Woodchip is heated to an exceptionally high temperature, converting it from a solid state to gas. This virtually tar-free gas is then used to fuel a generator and produce electricity, which is used on-site with the excess sold back to the grid. The heat generated during this process can be used for heating or industrial processes.
Solar
Combining Technologies to Maximise Renewable Generation
Our next generation of projects will include the co-location of different renewable and energy storage technologies to maximise their efficiency and positive impact. Solar PV arrays will form a core component of our co-location strategy and we look forward to working with landowners to identify suitable opportunities to deliver solar PV generation alongside wind power and battery storage networks to ensure our new projects are as productive and efficient as possible.
Hydrogen
Green hydrogen is produced using renewable electricity.
As our energy mix changes to meet net-zero demands, we will need more produced locally, for example, to help power heavy transport, public transport and the gas network. 3R Energy is keen to explore how green hydrogen production located close to onshore renewable developments could provide new jobs to help us build back better.
